WHO: Reading Rainbow / Creepoid / Gunn Truscinski Duo
WHAT: VOX POPULI BENEFIT
WHERE: Johnny Brenda’s
WHEN: Thursday, July 21, 9PM (show) 8PM (doors)
WHY: Great music for a great cause.
HOW MUCH: Tickets $10

Yet another chance to see one of my favorite local bands live (Creepoid) and I can't go due to attempts to be a grown up (studying for boards so that I can have a big girl job as a nurse). I also have yet to call myself a Reading Rainbow fan and hoped that this could be my chance. Oh well. Maybe you should be less lame like me and blow off any responsibilities you may have and go to this show. Start the weekend early with an affordable show that supports a local gallery (Vox Populi).

PRESS RELEASE:

Hailing from Fishtown, blissed-out two-piece Reading Rainbow head up Vox Populi Gallery’s summer fundraiser event. Having played SXSW 2010, the band will take a break from their tour with Eternal Summers to support the long-established experimental gallery collective. JUMP magazine describes the husband and wife team’s latest album –Prism Eyes (2010) - as “loaded with reverb, creating a harmonized rush of energetic sound.”

The swirling, atmospheric feel continues with Creepoid, also from Philadelphia - “bringing to mind wintery landscapes and a vibe of springtime dusks” (The Dell Magazine) – and New York’s Gunn-Truscinski Duo, praised by Pitchfork for their “magic, almost psychic quality… They mix touches of folk, psych, raga, and rock into hypnotic pieces that straddle the line between improvisation and songcraft."
